Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Viewpoints in Science welcomes contributions that reflect originality, scientific rigor, and clarity of communication. To maintain consistency and quality across all publications, we ask authors to follow these guidelines when preparing their manuscripts.

  1. Manuscript Types Accepted

We consider submissions in the following categories:

  • Original Research Articles – Empirical studies presenting new findings.
  • Review Articles – Critical and comprehensive overviews of existing research.
  • Perspectives & Commentaries – Short, thought-provoking pieces offering fresh insights or alternative interpretations.
  • Case Studies – Detailed examinations of specific events, phenomena, or practices.
  1. General Formatting Requirements
  • File format: Microsoft Word (.docx)
  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12
  • Spacing: Double-spaced, including references, tables, and figure captions
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
  • Page numbering: Bottom center of each page
  • Language: English (American or British, but consistent throughout)
  1. Manuscript Structure

Your manuscript should typically follow the IMRaD format:

  1. Title Page
    • Article title (concise but informative)
    • Full names of all authors
    • Affiliations (department, institution, city, country)
    • Corresponding author’s email address
    • ORCID iD (if available)
  2. Abstract
    • 150–250 words, summarizing the study's aim, methods, results, and conclusions
    • Include 4–6 keywords
  3. Main Text
    • Introduction– State the problem, background, and objectives
    • Methods– Describe methodology clearly for reproducibility
    • Results– Present findings logically, using tables/figures where appropriate
    • Discussion– Interpret results, compare with existing literature, address limitations
  4. Acknowledgments(if applicable)
  5. References– Formatted according to our citation style (see Section 6)
  6. Figures and Tables– Numbered sequentially and placed after the references or embedded in the text with captions
  7. Tables and Figures
  • Provide high-quality images (minimum 300 dpi for figures)
  • Label each table and figure with a clear, descriptive title
  • Indicate the source if reproduced or adapted from another work
  1. Ethical Considerations
  • Submissions must be original and not under consideration elsewhere
  • Studies involving human or animal subjects must include an ethics approval statement
  • Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest
  1. Citation and Reference Style

We use APA 7th Edition format for all references. Include the DOI for all sources where available.

In-text citation examples:

  • Single author: (Smith, 2021)
  • Two authors: (Smith & Jones, 2020)
  • Three or more authors: (Smith et al., 2019)

  1. Submission Process
  • Submit manuscripts through our online submission system at [insert submission URL]
  • Include a cover letter stating the article’s significance and confirming that it has not been published elsewhere
  • Ensure that all co-authors have approved the final version before submission
  1. Peer Review Process
  • All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review
  • Typical review time: 4–6 weeks
  • Authors will receive reviewer feedback and may be asked to revise their manuscript before acceptance

Authors retain copyright but grant Viewpoints in Science the right to publish the work under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, allowing unrestricted sharing and adaptation with proper attribution.
