Abstract

Braking systems are among the most critical safety components in vehicles, playing a fundamental role in preventing collisions and mitigating accident severity (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2022). Developments in materials science may enable the use of more durable and responsive braking components, thereby improving system longevity and effectiveness. Given this, the researcher conducted this study to enhance the conventional automobile emergency safety brake system and address its persistent drawbacks. This was also aimed at assessing the acceptability of the developed product in relation to its intended purpose. A product development method was employed to design, develop, and evaluate the acceptability of the emergency automobile foot brake system. A series of tests was conducted to evaluate the product's acceptability with respect to functionality, safety, efficiency, and overall acceptability. These were the benchmark, pilot, and final tests. The researcher and research adviser served as respondents during the benchmark test. The test yielded an overall mean rating of 4.1, with a corresponding description of “Agree” and a statistical interpretation of “Acceptable.” Afterwards, the researcher administered a pilot test that was participated in by five (5) Instructors and (25) students from the College of Technology, ESSU Guiuan Campus. The test results showed that respondents reported “Strongly Agree” and that the product is Highly Acceptable, with a grand total mean rating of 4.23. Meanwhile, during the final test, thirty (30) product end users, who were automobile drivers or owners and are either living or working at Guiuan town proper, were selected as respondents. Overall, the results indicate that the Emergency Automobile Foot Brake System has a high acceptability rating. Likewise, it is perceived as an acceptable product in terms of functionality, safety, efficiency, and general acceptability.
